Art from Innovative materials

An artist in Jackson Hole, WY is interested in making a giant work of art which is 'shiny'. As the Public Art Ambassador I offered my services of assisting in the creation of a public art piece referencing Tara Donovan's work at the MET, but in a sustainable and engaging manner.

Tara Donovan, a MacArthur Genius Grant recipient, creates large-scale installations from everyday and exotic materials. Pictured above are small rolls of Mylar configured as an organic composition on the wall. Our tactic will be to use Donovan's installation as inspiration, however we seek to use the scrap material produced from sequin production instead of Mylar.

The image is courtesy of Materials for the Arts, a non-profit in New York City that diverts usable materials from the business waste stream and provides them free of charge to cultural non-profits in NYC. I learned about 'sequin honeycomb' from their director, and it is their trademark material.

I am seeking the support of the worlds largest glitter manufacturer to contribute sequin honeycomb waste for our innovative and ecologically focused public art project. The end result will display the unique characteristics of the materials produced by the manufacturer, while supporting a grass-roots effort to create public art in Jackson Hole, WY.
